How to find customers for your clothing store

Clothing buyers post very specific requests: a linen shirt that does not wrinkle, jeans for tall women, a modest dress for a summer wedding. Small brands often fit those requests better than big retailers do.

This page shows where clothing buyers ask, the words they use, when demand peaks, and how to reply so it does not feel like an ad.

Where clothing buyers ask

WhereWhat people ask for
r/femalefashionadvice and r/malefashionadvice"Where can I find" and specific item requests
r/BuyItForLifeDurable basics: tees, socks, jackets
r/PetiteFashionAdvice and r/TallFashionAdviceFit-specific requests that big brands miss
Facebook groups for sustainable and small-brand fashionBrand recommendation requests

Read each community's rules before you reply. Most allow helpful answers from sellers but remove plain links and copy-paste ads.

What a buyer's post looks like

These are typical of the posts you are looking for. Each one names a need, and often a budget or a deadline:

Typical post

"Looking for a linen button-down that doesn't look like a pyjama top. Under $100."

Typical post

"Tall women: where do you buy trousers that actually reach your shoes?"

Typical post

"Need a modest midi dress for a summer wedding, natural fabric if possible."

Search phrases that find them

Paste these into Google, then sort or filter by the past week so you only see posts that are still open:

On Reddit itself, search your product word plus "recommend" or "looking for" and sort by New. Our guide on finding buying-intent posts has more phrases.

When demand peaks

Spring and early summer (holidays and weddings), back to school, and Black Friday.

How to reply

  1. Answer the question first. Give a real recommendation, even if it is general advice.
  2. Say you make or sell it. Being open about it builds trust, and most communities expect it.
  3. Add a detail that helps them decide: a price, a size, how long delivery takes.
  4. Reply from your own account, and only to posts that are recent and still open.

Example reply

"Hi! Linen that doesn't look like sleepwear usually comes down to a heavier weave and a proper collar. Ours is a mid-weight linen with a structured collar, around $85. Happy to send the size chart."

Skip the searching

Doing this by hand takes an hour or more a day. Lead Harbour does it for you: paste your clothing store link and it finds recent public posts from people asking for what you sell, checks each one is a real buyer, and writes a reply like the one above. You send it yourself from your own account.

Talk to other store owners

Our Discord server is where store owners share what works: which posts convert, how they word replies, and what to avoid. Free to join, and you can ask us anything there.

Common questions

Where do people ask for clothing brand recommendations?

Reddit fashion subreddits (female, male, petite and tall fashion advice), r/BuyItForLife for basics, and public Facebook groups about sustainable fashion.

How should a small clothing brand reply to these posts?

Answer the fit or fabric question first, then mention your piece if it truly matches. Include a price range and offer the size chart rather than pushing a link.

How does Lead Harbour find clothing buyers?

Paste your store link and Lead Harbour reads what you sell, then searches public posts on Reddit, Facebook, Quora and forums for people asking for it. Sellers, ads and old posts are filtered out, and each lead comes with a reply you send yourself. Your first 5 buyers cost $1.
