How to find customers for your yarn or crochet store
Crafters ask detailed questions: which yarn for a baby blanket, where to buy a discontinued colour, what hook size for a chunky throw. A shop that sells yarn, kits or finished crochet pieces can answer all of them.
This page shows where yarn and crochet buyers ask, the words they use, when demand peaks, and how to reply so it does not feel like an ad.
Where yarn and crochet buyers ask
| Where | What people ask for |
|---|---|
| r/crochet and r/knitting | Yarn substitutes, kit recommendations, beginner questions |
| r/YarnAddicts | Where to buy specific yarns and colourways |
| r/Beginning_Crochet | Beginners asking for a first kit or hook set |
| Facebook crochet and knitting groups | Pattern help and "where can I buy this yarn" posts |
Read each community's rules before you reply. Most allow helpful answers from sellers but remove plain links and copy-paste ads.
What a buyer's post looks like
These are typical of the posts you are looking for. Each one names a need, and often a budget or a deadline:
Typical post
"What's a soft, washable yarn for a baby blanket? Not acrylic if possible."
Typical post
"Total beginner, can anyone recommend a crochet kit with everything included?"
Typical post
"Looking for chunky yarn in sage green, need about 8 skeins for a throw."
Search phrases that find them
Paste these into Google, then sort or filter by the past week so you only see posts that are still open:
"yarn recommendation" baby blanket"beginner crochet kit" recommend"where can I buy" yarn site:reddit.com"chunky yarn" "looking for"
On Reddit itself, search your product word plus "recommend" or "looking for" and sort by New. Our guide on finding buying-intent posts has more phrases.
When demand peaks
Autumn and winter, when people start blankets and handmade gifts, plus January when beginners pick up a new hobby.
How to reply
- Answer the question first. Give a real recommendation, even if it is general advice.
- Say you make or sell it. Being open about it builds trust, and most communities expect it.
- Add a detail that helps them decide: a price, a size, how long delivery takes.
- Reply from your own account, and only to posts that are recent and still open.
Example reply
"Hi! For a baby blanket, a superwash merino or a cotton blend is soft and survives the washing machine. We stock a cotton-merino DK that's popular for exactly this. Happy to suggest how many skeins you'd need."
