How to find customers for your plant or garden store

Plant people ask where to buy rare plants, which pot will not drown a succulent, and what tools a beginner needs. Shops that sell plants, pots, soil or garden tools can answer all of these.

This page shows where plant and garden buyers ask, the words they use, when demand peaks, and how to reply so it does not feel like an ad.

Where plant and garden buyers ask

WhereWhat people ask for
r/houseplants and r/IndoorGardenWhere to buy, care and pot questions
r/succulents and r/MonsteraSpecific plant requests
r/gardening and r/vegetablegardeningSeeds, tools and supplies
Facebook plant swap and gardening groupsRequests for specific plants and supplies

Read each community's rules before you reply. Most allow helpful answers from sellers but remove plain links and copy-paste ads.

What a buyer's post looks like

These are typical of the posts you are looking for. Each one names a need, and often a budget or a deadline:

Typical post

"Where can I buy a variegated monstera that isn't $300?"

Typical post

"Looking for self-watering pots that actually look nice."

Typical post

"Beginner here, which hand tools are worth buying for a small veg patch?"

Search phrases that find them

Paste these into Google, then sort or filter by the past week so you only see posts that are still open:

On Reddit itself, search your product word plus "recommend" or "looking for" and sort by New. Our guide on finding buying-intent posts has more phrases.

When demand peaks

Spring is the big one for garden supplies; houseplant demand is steady all year with a bump in autumn and gift season.

How to reply

  1. Answer the question first. Give a real recommendation, even if it is general advice.
  2. Say you make or sell it. Being open about it builds trust, and most communities expect it.
  3. Add a detail that helps them decide: a price, a size, how long delivery takes.
  4. Reply from your own account, and only to posts that are recent and still open.

Example reply

"Hi! Self-watering pots with a separate reservoir work well for most houseplants. We make a ceramic one with a hidden reservoir in 4 colours. Happy to suggest a size for your plant."

Skip the searching

Doing this by hand takes an hour or more a day. Lead Harbour does it for you: paste your plant or garden store link and it finds recent public posts from people asking for what you sell, checks each one is a real buyer, and writes a reply like the one above. You send it yourself from your own account.
